The Hunt
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
— Pablo Picasso
Stepping into the heat of summer, there is a natural draw to get outside, engage directly with life, and move.
And as a pretty kinetic Lost Girl who wants to be outdoors and in motion even in winter, that desire burns intensely this time of year. Like… really intensely.
With the bright sun shining and my well refilled from a season of deeper restoration, I’m more than ready to embrace action, direction, and get back to “The hunt”.
If May was my invitation to linger in silliness and embrace your nourishing Yin energy, then June is my call to light your Yang ablaze and join the hunt, whether as a lone wolf or as part of a pack.
Just as we all carry Yin regardless of gender identity, we all carry Yang too. That focused, fiery energy that allows us to pursue a goal, endure discomfort, protect what matters, and move boldly toward a challenge.
The point is not to live entirely in one energy or the other, but to learn how to move between them wisely.
Untended fire can destroy.
Directed fire can forge steel.
And summer, at least to me, feels like a season made for directed fire.
So let’s use the energy we’ve been gathering. Let’s capture it, ignite it, and aim it toward something meaningful. A goal. An adventure. A creation. An act of service. A challenge that excites and stretches us.
Let’s go on the hunt.
Eyes focused on intention, and that intention directing action. Embracing discomfort not as punishment, but as part of the thrill. All while using challenge itself as kindling to keep the fire burning.
Just remember to hunt something you actually want. And better yet, something that can nourish others once you bring it home.
Maybe that’s deeper connection with your kids on a road trip. Maybe it’s building a business, finishing a difficult project, training for a race, writing a book, learning a craft, or creating art that expresses something true.
Whatever it is, let your Yang energy carry you from inception to completion and then share the “game” you’ve gathered with the world.
Hence the opening quote from Pablo Picasso.
Picasso created roughly 50,000 works over the course of his life in a relentless hunt for expression, mastery, experimentation, and meaning. Most people only remember the masterpieces, but those masterpieces were born from thousands upon thousands of attempts, studies, sketches, experiments, and imperfect creations.
The hunt itself shaped the artist.
And through that fire of determination, he gave something lasting back to the world.
So now the question becomes:
What are you hunting?
And how can you turn up the heat enough to pursue it boldly, bring it fully to life, and ultimately share it with others?
